Guilty |

I argued that the lower-left sign says that the no-stopping restriction ends at 6pm and so I could legally park after that time. However, the judge agreed with the bylaw-enforcement officer that the rightmost sign is "in effect 24 hours a day", and I was thus in violation of the no stopping bylaw. The lower left sign is irrelevant. Therefore I was found guilty.
The judge asked if I had anything to say before he passed sentence. I said that when I parked I had taken the time to examine the signs to determine that I was legally parked. I added that the signage was ambiguous and confusing, and that a reasonable person might easily think that he could park there after 6pm.
However the bylaw officer stated, and the judge then concurred, that this is "standard signage for the City of Vancouver", and that in his opinion it was "not confusing". I was therefore fined $40.
