Inspired by the Aboriginal and Greenland flags, this design uses the national colours in an abstract way to evoke a wattle blossom, Uluru, a Dream track and the land Down Under.  It's also meant to convey a sense of how multifaceted Australian society is, of the unique perspectives on the world that Australians have, given where they are and the many wheres they have come from.
